Welcome Lisa, can you tell us why you’re joining Allura Art?
I have long been a member of your Facebook community and had heard about the Allura Art online gallery through other artists. I felt it was the perfect platform to showcase my work to a wider audience.

The early years
How long have you been an artist?
I have been surrounded by art all my life and have always found myself creating. I studied art at various levels, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I officially began putting my work out into the world.
What first inspired you to draw and paint?
A lifetime of exposure to art as the daughter of an artist and architect... art is truly in my blood!

Behind the painting
What motivates you to paint and what does your art mean to you?
Painting is my therapy. It has carried me through some of my hardest days and allows me to release emotions I might otherwise hold on to. I am forever grateful to have the ability to create, and I never take it for granted.
How do you choose your subject matter?
I think of each painting I make as a diary entry. As a nature lover, I am drawn outdoors whenever I can be, and I document my experiences of the outdoors through my work. I call these paintings “naturescapes” and each one is an attempt to bring a glimmer of the natural world into the home. In some ways, I think my subject matter chose me.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?
I would describe myself as an intuitive and expressive artist. My work is guided as much by feeling as by observation, and I try to capture the calm and grounding presence of nature through colour and movement.

How regularly do you paint and how much time do you devote to your art?
As a mother of two young children, I paint whenever I get the chance. Nowadays that looks like a daily painting practice, since they have recently both become school-age.
What has it taken to reach this point in your career?
Discipline is the first word that comes to mind. Paint whenever you can, not just when you feel like it.

What are your creative aspirations going forward?
I hope to continue growing as an artist, exploring new ideas while staying true to the connection with nature that inspires my work. My goal is to keep creating meaningful pieces and to share them with an ever-wider audience.
