Lisa Cassar

“Maltese artist Lisa Cassar creates vibrant semi-abstract naturescapes which evoke both movement and stillness... inviting viewers to slow down, look closely and find peace in the intricate forms of the natural world.” Malta Today

Her compositions focus on local flora including dense foliage, interwoven branches and layered leaves. In these works, colour, pattern and light dissolve the boundary between observation and abstraction.

Rooted in a deeply personal connection to nature, Cassar’s practice took shape during a challenging period when time spent outdoors became a vital refuge in her search for grounding and calm. She captures the shifting greens of vegetation and the rhythmic geometry of branches to evoke a sense of stillness and renewal.

“I find peace through my experiences in the natural world and I want to translate that feeling into my work”.

Rather than depicting distant landscapes, Cassar brings nature into close focus in an attempt to bring the restorative power of the outdoors into interior spaces.

After formal training in art and design, Cassar began painting in 2021 and her debut solo exhibition, Where I Go to Breathe (2025), introduced her work to Maltese audiences. She continues to develop her practice, exploring the intersection of organic beauty and internal resilience.
