Last chance to see show as extra paintings arrive

Newly hung paintings by Kevin Sciberras

Exhibition ends January 31 !

Art at the Corinthia Palace, the contemporary fine art collective featuring Allura Art artists, was originally due to end on January 8, but following great feedback from visitors and hotel guests, Allura was invited to extend until January 31.

Now, with less than a week left before the show ends, it’s the final opportunity to see the artwork in the flesh.

In this blog post we share some of the extra paintings which were hung as replacements for those which have been sold during the exhibition. So if you have visited the show, you may not have seen this new work.

What’s more, if you can’t make it to the show in person, (spoiler alert!) we’ve compiled for you a photo album of the full exhibition, with photography by Bernadett Mozer.

New paintings hung mid-show

Here is a small selection of the new pieces hung after the show began to replace some of the sold pieces.

Paintings by Andrew Smith

We begin with Breakwater Bridge, a piece by artist Andrew Smith, who painted the plein air watercolour (pictured above right) to mark the occasion of the opening of the iconic Grand Harbour Bridge in Valletta.

We also have new artwork by Debbie Bonello. In her oil painting Golden Hour in Xaghra (below left), the artist adopts a minimalist approach in order to capture this Gozitan skyline and preserve the beauty of the day before the sun goes down.

6.15am (above top right), was painted from memory after an early walk on the beach, and Valley (above bottom right) during a period when she had begun to explore more abstracted depictions of her subjects.

In stark contrast to Debbie’s painterly style, in Pointless Without You (below), hyperrealist painter Christine Porter Lofaro takes two common objects, a pencil and sharpener, to represent the value and importance of relationships, meaningful bonds and love.

In Wisp (below bottom right), artist Jo Dounis uses a palette of peaches and wines to evoke a dramatic dawn sky and the hope she senses in the dawn of a new day.

With the Greek word for smoke as its title, Kapnos was originally intended to be a monochromatic piece, but grew more colourful as the piece evolved.

New paintings by Kevin Sciberras currently on display at the show are Mdina Skyline (below top right) and Zurrieq, Aerial View (below bottom right).

Mdina Skyline is a depiction of the old city of Mdina, Its skyline dominated by majestic bastions and further crowned by the 17th century Baroque Cathedral and Carmelite Covent Church.

Zurrieq, Aerial View is part of a series of Maltese aerial views showing the typical urban arrangement dominated by the town parish church. The artist uses semi-abstract forms to depict the church and surrounding rooftops, while the eye is drawn to its impressive facade and other architectural features.

Thank you

Thank you for following Allura as we spread the word about our artists and share their work. In addition to those we’ve shared in this blog post, other new pieces have been added to the exhibition. We will continue to rotate sold paintings while the show remains ongoing, and we hope that if you haven’t already, you’ll get the chance to visit the exhibition before the show ends on January 31.
