Tender Core is an abstract work depicting a beautiful and tender core protected by a rougher exterior which is present, but in the background. Before vulnerability is exposed, whether in a plant, an animal or in the human world, a certain level of protection from external forces needs to be felt, in order to imbue a sense of security. In this piece, the artist conveys that the feelings and emotions relating to a sense of safety allow that vulnerability to be revealed, tentatively at first, and then more boldly as that sense of security deepens.
