Kevin Sciberras

“Kevin Sciberras is a poet of space and volume, masterfully capturing an aura of silence and introspection in places of worship and edifices of certain architectural distinction.” Joseph Agius, Times of Malta.

For this established Maltese painter, the muse is Malta itself, and specifically its dramatic, iconic and awe-inspiring architecture. In a style he describes as “semi-abstract and geometrical,” Sciberras applies layered planes of rich transparent colour to build a sense of depth and dimension, artfully alluding to the passage of time in a nation steeped in history.

His artistic evolution is driven by a passion for learning, which, in his complementary role as an art teacher, he also nurtures in his students. “I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think.” Quoting Socrates, Sciberras explains, “I firmly believe in this saying. Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.”

Since embarking on his painting career in 2000, Sciberras has been commissioned by high-profile patrons including the Archbishop of Malta and Bank of Valletta. He has been prolific, exhibiting widely and featuring extensively in the national press, including Times of Malta, and television programmes such as Maltarti and Għawdex Illum.
